Unforgettable Quake was a breakthrough in the genre of dynamic 3D shooters. Old technologies have been abandoned here in favour of a completely new, much more efficient and more effective engine, allowing the elimination of three-dimensional, detailed opponents. As one of the first productions on the market, the game also offered support for graphics accelerators, i.e.
additional cards mounted on a PC. In the game we play the role of a brave soldier, the only survivor of an enemy attack, who has to go through special portals to different worlds to defeat powerful bosses there. Along the way to the final, he will go through dozens of different levels, finding buttons that open doors, keys, and, of course, eliminating opponents who want to prevent him from his mission at all costs.
Years later the title looks pretty good. Slightly gothic style with stages maintained in the atmosphere of forgotten castles, full of dangerous enemies, still makes a huge impression. The speed of action also leaves nothing to be desired, as does the sound.
Quake's popularity also gained the band Nine Inch Nails, which prepared the music track. The sounds are also sufficiently disturbing. Certainly, long nights spent playing online remained in the memory.
The shareware version offers to play the whole first episode of the story, some one-quarter of the whole product. This gives a considerable insight into the mechanics of the game. To have fun you will need to download and run the DOSBox program.
We also recommend that you read the video tutorial on how to configure it correctly.
