OpenToonz is an open and free version of the software for creating two-dimensional animations. The project was created after the commercial program was taken over by the creators of "Princess Mononoke". OpenToonz is suitable for colour and black-and-white animation on paper and scanned (OpenToonz includes tools for drawing vector contours based on sketches) or developed from the start on the computer (the program also includes tools for drawing and colouring).
In OpenToonz it is possible to carry out the animation production process from designing shots based on a scenario to post-production of rendered shots. Its advantage is the ability to plan the workspace according to your own needs. OpenToonz allows you to build sequences on the basis of several frames or just one drawing, with the use of distortion grids and "skeletons" that allow you to form character positions.
You can use the view of adjacent frames (onion skinning) and layers combined in different ways. There are also a lot of effects in the program, which can use many sources. Many tasks can be automated with ECMAScripts.
The program also allows you to render stereoscopic scenes.
