ON1 Photo is a set of tools that will be useful for any photographer. The purpose of their existence is to speed up work on photographs. The package includes tools for overlapping effects, improving the color of photos, retouching portraits, folding photomontages, as well as a very advanced viewer.
Some of the modules are also available as plug-ins for Photoshop CC and Lightrooma. You can save the editing effects as a PSD file and continue working in Photoshop. In the image viewer you can also view file metadata, add ratings, collect photos in collections, search with filtering and so on.
There should be nothing missing here that is necessary to keep the photo library under control. What's more, the program can connect to Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive and read a stream from iCloud. From here you can go to edit the photo (or a copy of the photo) in one of the additional modules or in Adobe programs, if they are installed on the same computer.
In the Enchance module you will find all the tools necessary to improve the appearance of the image, the same as in programs like "digital darkroom". Here you can use automatic tools or make all changes manually. We have a panel with brightness, contrast, brightness, shadow brightness, light brightness, colour temperature, noise, details and vignette.
Expanding further panels will give us access to more precise controls. It is a good idea to save your favorite settings and use them again. There are also tools for framing photos and basic retouching.
The Effects module, as the name suggests, allows you to apply various effects to the prepared photo. Subsequent effects are applied on layers, you can also reach for a brush and paint a mask for the selected effect. You can (and should) use for this purpose ready-made kits, supplied by the manufacturer or created by yourself.
In the program you will also find a rich collection of filters that imitate classic film very well. Subsequent modifications are superimposed on top of each other, like layers in Photoshop. You can change or switch off the above ones at any time.
Portrait is a module designed to retouch portraits, but it is not about manually removing every wrinkle. The program will find the faces in the photo itself (it can be helped by marking the eyes and lips manually, and then painting the mask on the skin), and then it will perform the necessary steps to improve on the basis of one of the previously defined schemes on each of the marked faces separately. The names of the zippers speak for themselves - dyeing lips, whitening teeth, smoothing the skin, sharpening the eyes and so on.
Layers is a module in which you can make a photomontage or apply an original texture to the photo. Simply drag and drop images from your browser. Just like in raster graphics editing programs, we have different selection and cutting tools, several ways to combine layers, apply masks, and so on.
There is even a "magic" eraser that will remove the background from the photos. All edited files can be saved in Photoshop format for later editing, so you don't lose anything. Resize is a module that has not yet been updated to version 10 and its installation is not mandatory.
It allows you to prepare a photo for printing, even if you need to enlarge the digital image. You can even prepare large-format posters divided into several parts. When zooming in, you can change several parameters, such as texture, threshold and smoothing, or you can rely on the slot machine.
The trial version allows you to use the program for 60 days. The price of the full set is 119 dollars, some modules can also be purchased separately. On the manufacturer's website you will also find learning materials.
