The Doom premiere paved the way for many unforgettable FPP proposals based on the same technology. Heretic game from Raven Software tried to approach the subject of eliminating hostile enemies in a slightly different way, as long as the whole reached the end of the next stage. The futuristic environment of the legendary id Software work was abandoned in favour of a return to the past and a jump into the atmosphere of fantasy, with magical beings to be defeated.

The title was the first part of the story of the evil Snake Riders, later continued in Hexen: Beyond Heretic. The player takes on the role of Corvus' elves, who is supposed to defeat one of them.

The production is very close to the style introduced by his great protoplast, throwing us into places filled with demonic creatures to be eliminated. Instead of modern guns or rifles, however, we have here, among others, magic wands, crossbow and necromancers gloves that wreak havoc. The project showed that a lot can be done from a 3D engine created for your needs by id Software.

Heretic maintained the same dynamic tempo, sometimes overwhelming with the chaos resulting from the attacks of many units on the screen. At the same time, it was here that FPS games introduced looking up and down to make it easier to hit enemies. It is worth returning to this little bit of a dusty proposal.

The shareware version offers to play the whole first episode of the story with three available in full version. It gives a big insight into the mechanics of the game. To have fun you will need to download and run the DOSBox program.
