The HDD Low Level Format Tool is a free (for home use) tool for low-level formatting of hard drives as well as various types of memory cards and external USB/FireWire drives. The process of low-level formatting of the medium allows for permanent deletion of data stored on it (it is not possible to restore them). In addition, in the case of older hard drives, this operation had to be performed in order to prepare the device for operation in the computer.

Currently, low-level formatting of media is carried out by manufacturers still in the factory and allows to save on it the information necessary for proper operation of the controller. In addition to the low-level erase function, the program provides information about the model, firmware version, etc., as well as the general condition of the device. In addition to erasing the data itself, the Low Level Format Tool also deletes all partitions and data stored in the MBR master boot record.

HDD Low Level Format Tool supports hard drives from all leading manufacturers (including Maxtor, Hitachi, Seagate, Samsung, Toshiba, Fujitsu, IBM, Quantum, Western Digital) connected to a computer via S-ATA (SATA), IDE (E-IDE), SCSI, SAS, USB and FIREWIRE interfaces. The program also offers the possibility of formatting SD, MMC, MemoryStick and CompactFlash memory cards.
