Calibre is the "Swiss officer's knife" for modern bookworms using tablets and readers. Calibre not only provides convenient tools for browsing, organizing and converting digital books, but also enables you to create books from content provided by RSS feeds. Calibre's book management is similar to working with a typical media library.
Book files in PDF, RTF, ePub, FB2, LIT, MOBI, PDB, TXT and many other formats are added to the collection (copied to the computer disk) from which they can be viewed (by authors, publishers, ratings, titles or cycles), edited and converted to one of the supported formats. It is worth noting the advanced conversion capabilities of this program. Here we can configure the appearance of the output documents, define the font size, and choose the target display size of the electronic reader for which the book is being prepared.
In addition, it is possible to analyse the structure of the document and ensure an elegant division into chapters, automatic creation of a table of contents and heuristic analysis of the text, which unifies formatting (removing blank lines between paragraphs, correct wrapping of lines, removing unnecessary hyphens left after moving words, etc.) and defining your own metadata reading schemes based on the file name at import. The program uses XPath (XML Path Language) expressions to analyze and define formatting. Calibre is not only a book, because it has a feature rarely seen in programs of this type - it is an RSS reader.
Calibre has the ability to download once a day articles from a defined list of sources and then export them in the form of a "digestible" document for your reader or tablet, which can be read without an Internet connection. At the beginning of the document there is a summary, which at first glance does not differ from the content presented by the RSS reader. Under the article headings there are links to the relevant pages of the document, which contain full versions of the texts.
Often, the quality of the fonts displayed can be improved using Microsoft ClearType Tuner.
