BoxCryptor is a very interesting and easy to use tool for encrypting files and folders. It allows you to protect data stored both on your local hard drive and in the cloud (e.g. Dropbox or SugarSync service).

After installation, the program gives the user the ability to create encrypted folders in which data will be stored secure. These folders can be located both on the computer disk, as well as on all kinds of portable data carriers - pendrives, memory cards, etc., and also on the computer. Each of them is mapped by BoxCryptor as a separate virtual partition, whose support is identical to that of any other disk in your computer.

Access to secure data is only possible when BoxCryptor is running. Access to the tool is protected by a password, which unlocks all encrypted folders. In addition to the ability to secure locally stored data, the tool also allows encryption of data that will then be placed on external servers.

The only necessary condition is that confidential data is located in a folder synchronized with the server on which it will be stored. All data protected by BoxCryptor is encrypted using the AES-256 algorithm. The process of both encryption and decryption of data takes place on the fly.

The free version of the program allows you to create one encrypted folder in which you can store up to 2 GB of data. If you want to circumvent these restrictions, you need to purchase the program in an appropriate option - for personal use (EUR 29.99) or commercial use (EUR 69.99).
