Basilisk II is an emulator of classic Macintosh computers running on Motorola 680x0 processors. It can run the last system available for this architecture, i.e. Mac OS 8.1.

An emulator can "pretend" both Mac Classic and Mac II computers, depending on the ROM used. On these stronger machines it gives you the opportunity to use colorful graphics and CD quality sound. There is an extended keyboard (with a numeric block) and even a three-button mouse.

Macintosh filesystems, both on independent HFS partitions and image files on hard drives, a CD-ROM drive and even a floppy disk drive, are also supported. It is also possible to connect the emulated system to the network via the Ethernet driver, as well as to exchange files with the host-host system by clicking the Host Directory Tree icon. Those interested in software for classic Mac OS should visit The Internet Archive.

Images of the ROMs of old Macintoshy can be found on the website of Reduntant Robot.
