VT Hash Check is a simple tool designed to check if a file has not been marked as infected on VirusTotal. VirusTotal service allows the user to dispel any doubts if he suspects that the selected file may contain malicious components and the software installed on the computer does not detect any threat. VirusTotal analyzes selected files using more than 40 antivirus engines.
Among the scanning mechanisms offered you can find solutions used in such software as Avast, AVG, BitDefender, ClamAV, Comodo, DrWeb, F-Secure, GData, Kaspersky, McAfee, NOD32, Norman, Panda, PCTools, Symantec, as well as less popular. VT Hash Check integrates with the Windows Explorer context menu, generating checksums (MD5 and SHA1) of the files being checked. The checksums are then sent to VirusTotal and compared with the available database of scanned objects.
The first time you run the application asks you to enter the API key, which is necessary to connect to the Virus Total database. The free key, which allows to call 4-6 queries per minute to the server, can be obtained by registering on the manufacturer's website.
