Universal Media Server is a multiplatform DLNA server designed for transcoding and sending multimedia files over a network to devices that support DLNA technology. The program is based on PS3 Media Server. DLNA (The Digital Living Network Alliance) is a communication standard used by manufacturers of electronic devices, offering the possibility of sharing multimedia resources (movies, music, photos) between different devices connected to the home network.

For example, if you have a suitable DLNA device and a WiFi network in your home, you can display our multimedia without having to connect your computer with additional cables from TV, audio/video view on it. Universal Media Server offers both native sharing (streaming) of media supported by the device, e.g. MP3, JPG, PNG, GIF, TIFF, AVI, MP4, TS, M2TS, MPEG on the PS3 console, as well as transcoding (on-the-fly) of formats not supported by the device, e.g.

MKV, FLV, OGM, OGGG, FLAC, MPC, APE. Another interesting option offered by the Universal Media Server application is the ability to display subtitles for movies saved in TXT format, even if the device does not have this feature. The application is compatible with devices such as AC Ryan PlayOn!
