The Hidden Data Removal Tool is an add-on to Microsoft Office XP and 2003 applications, allowing you to completely remove hidden data such as comments, user name, previous authors and editors, summary of personal information, patch marks, VB macro descriptions and comments, printer path, and much more from files created through Word, Excel and PowerPoint. This allows documents to be made publicly available without fear of disclosure of confidential information. The program integrates with these applications as an additional command "Delete hidden data" in the File menu.

It can also be run from the command line for multiple files simultaneously. The tool should be run on files ready for publication, as some data removed by the add-on is used by Office for collaborative functions such as tracking changes, comments, or sending for review. (2) Save the file by renaming it and do not replace the original file with a new document so as to preserve the document containing the original data.
