MakeMKV is a small program designed for converting movies to MKV format. The application also has useful tools for backing up the entire disc content and bypassing AACS, BD+ security. The program can also be used as a server for video streams.

MakeMKV converts all types of AVCHD, DVD, HD DVD and Blu-ray movies to MKV format, while maintaining the highest image quality and original HD audio track. In addition, all necessary chapter data and meta-information will be retained, including but not limited to audio type and language tracks. The process of converting the film to MKV format takes place in three different stages - mounting the disc to the optical drive and reading its contents, editing individual film parameters and removing unnecessary languages, as well as the data conversion process itself, which can take up to several minutes in the case of a DVD film.
