foobar is a program by Peter Pawlowski, co-founder of WinAmp, who resigned from cooperation with NullSoft. foobar has a reputation for excellent sound quality. The main distinguishing feature of a "crowd" program is its internal data processing performed on 64 bits with 16/24 bit signal conversion to a 16/24 bit output signal with a dither (appropriately selected noise to improve listening experience).
Loss formats are decoded up to 32bit, so there is no need to cut off large signal values. Supports formats: MP3, MP2, Musepack, Ogg Vorbis, WAV, AIFF, VOC, AU, SND, CDDA, MPEG-4 AAC, FLAC, Monkey's Audio, WavPack, Speex, Mod, SPC.
Offers support for streaming media, song volume uniformity, tag editing, audio CD recording and format conversion. Sound can be played through WaveOut, DirectSound, DirectSound 2 and Kernel Streaming. The programme presents itself very modestly, but the author definitely focuses on sound quality.
