Expression Encoder, formerly known as Expression Media Encoder, is an application that complements the functionality of Expression Studio. The program allows you to process and recode multimedia content to VC-1 format (WMV9). The main domain of Expression Encoder is customization of video files to the needs of the Internet and mobile devices.

In addition to the traditional version with a graphical interface, the program also has a command line version. In short, Encoder provides native support for AVI, WMV, WMA, MOV (QuickTime) and MPEG formats, optimizes video quality for streaming, and encodes it into VC-1 format packed in a WMV file. Encoder also allows you to capture desktop content.

It is also worth noting that it fully supports Silverlight technology. The free version does not support H.264 recoding and Smooth Streaming on the IIS web server. The free version also has a 10-minute desktop capture time limit and does not support third party codecs.
