Aptana Studio Community Edition is a very interesting application which is a free alternative to commercial packages dedicated mainly to developers.... but not only. Aptana is an IDE environment for creating websites (HTML, CSS, XML), where a lot of emphasis is placed on AJAX/Java Script technology.

The program was written in Java so it is very flexible and can be run on different platforms (Windows, Linux). It has such functions as syntax highlighting, error verification, auto code completion. Moreover, it shows in which browsers the tag is supported.

The application includes popular AJAX libraries such as AFLAX, Dojo, MochiKit, Prototype, Rico or Yahoo UI. Authors on the specially prepared aptana.tv website provide very interesting screencasts demonstrating the possibilities of the application.
