YTD Video Downloader (formerly YouTube Downloader) is one of the most popular tools for downloading short video clips from the Internet. Contrary to its somewhat misleading name, it allows you to save videos not only from YouTube, but also Bing Video, Blip.tv, DailyMotion, Facebook, Metacafe, Google Video and many others on your computer. Working with the program is very simple and is limited to pasting a link to a selected clip in its main window.
In addition, the user can define the quality of the downloaded video and the location where it will be saved. By default, YTD Video Downloader saves clips as FLV files, but once the download process is complete, it offers the ability to convert to MOV, MP4, 3GP, WMV, AVI or MP3 formats, compatible with iPod, iPhone, PSP, portable media players and smartphones. There are also functions available that allow you to change the volume of sound, as well as to cut out selected fragments from clips.
The tool is equipped with a built-in player, giving you the ability to view saved FLV files without the need for additional software. The free version, despite its considerable functionality, has some limitations in relation to the paid edition (Pro). They introduce, among other things, a limit of simultaneously downloaded videos, lower writing speed, and do not allow for automatic conversion of clips right after downloading.
