There are many motorcycle games on the market, but almost in each of them we race on specially prepared tracks with rivals. In Rider we will also race, but with time, and as a track will serve as a crowded street of one of the Japanese cities! The Player's task is to drive the entire route within the set time limit.
The distance we have travelled and what we still have to go through is indicated by a special bar located in the upper right corner of the screen. There is a time indicator just below it. Contrary to appearances, the task seems simple, but nothing more wrong - there is a huge crowd on the street, we will encounter some road works, road constrictions or other obstacles, and besides, we must be careful not to be caught by the police when breaking traffic regulations!
The latter can make the game quite unpleasant: almost every second signal is a policeman who only waits to stick in a fine, and this situation is associated with a considerable loss of valuable time. Gentlemen in blue uniforms are so wise that they secretly (e.g.
under a viaduct) mount speed cameras and if we drive too fast, they stop us as well. However, these are not all the dangers we face. Our greatest nightmare will not be the police, but other participants of the movement.
The motorcycle has a low resistance (indicated by a suitable belt) to collisions, so after a few breakdowns we can finish the ride unsuccessfully. Other cars very often change lanes and don't even look at whether we're driving on it. Some of the lorries on the roadway may fall asleep several boxes or a pedestrian may literally jump under the wheels - all the time we have to be very vigilant and cautious.
The motorcycle is controlled with the mouse. In the middle of the screen there is a special field where you can move the cursor. Depending on its position, our vehicle will accelerate, slow down or brake.
There are 6 vehicles to choose from: from a tricycle similar to a scooter, through scooters, to race racers. The routes are also varied - we will see the morning and afternoon scenes, and we will even drive at sunset.
The graphic design in Rider is very good - you can see that the city is vibrant with life. The sound also holds a high level and fits the game very well. It's really worth playing!
