RAMDisk is an interesting tool that allows you to create an additional hard disk in the RAM space, whose advantage over standard devices of this type is a much faster work, and thus shorter time to access the data stored on it. The program is in fact a special driver, working at the kernel level and allowing to separate from the RAM space the disk, which in the system will be visible as a regular hard disk. RAMDisk is dedicated mainly to users with larger amounts of RAM (from 2 GB upwards), although according to the manufacturer's assurances, even 512 MB is enough to create small discs.
The maximum size of the hard disk created in this way is 4 GB. This space is completely sufficient for the average user to improve the overall comfort of work. Operations such as transferring temporary browser files, documents or image files to it allows you to increase the speed of a web browser, applications included in office packages or graphic programs.
RAMDisk is also often used during compilation, encryption, as well as ripping and converting multimedia. The hard drive created with the tool can be turned off at any time. It is worth remembering that RAM is not a persistent memory, i.e.
all data stored in it is erased when the computer is restarted. However, RAMDisk developers solved this problem in a very simple way. The program allows you to save the contents of the disk as an image on a standard hard disk and load it during system startup.
For users who are not satisfied with the maximum space offered in the free edition, they can register the program and purchase a license (18.99 USD). Then RAMDisk will allow them to create an additional drive with a capacity of up to 32 GB.
