PeerBlock is an increasingly popular, very simple tool for monitoring network connections, allowing to block the operation of malicious advertising components (adware), spyware or servers analyzing our actions in P2P networks. PeerBlock is based on PeerGuardian, which is no longer developed, offering similar functionality and is an interesting addition to standard firewalls. Its operation as well as configuration is very simple.
The first time you start up, the program launches a configuration wizard that guides you step-by-step through the entire process, allowing you to conveniently define the list of locked items used in the daily operation of filters and preferences for the update mechanism. As mentioned above, the tool works on the basis of special lists, where we can put both URLs and executable files that we would like to block. PeerBlock was also equipped with data transfer management functions on selected ports.
Other options include log and history modules and an event notification mechanism.
