Paragon Drive Backup 9 Free Edition is a free (for home use) tool designed to protect data against loss due to hardware, software or operating system failures. It offers a set of basic functions for backing up and restoring data. The program is a free and functionally limited variant of Drive Backup 9 Personal.

Although it offers only a set of basic functions, it is perfect for home use in the daily protection of the user's data. With Paragon Drive Backup 9 Free Edition, you can back up entire disks or selected partitions, perform real-time backups (Hot Backup technology) without interrupting work on your computer, and validate backup archives. As in the case of backups, their restoration can be performed in different combinations of disks and partitions, also from a single archive.

In addition, the tool allows you to create so-called bootable rescue disks (USB, CD, DVD), which can be used to run an operating system incapable of booting. The 9 drives and removable media supported by Paragon Drive Backup include ATA (IDE, SATA), SCSI hard drives, all levels of SCSI, IDE and SATA RAID controllers, USB 1.x/2.0 and IEEE 1394 (FireWire) devices and all kinds of memory cards. The program supports NTFS file systems (v1.2, v3.0, v3.1), FAT16/32, Linux Ext2FS/Ext3FS/Swap and HFS.

The tool is available in Polish language version. Its operation is additionally simplified by a graphical interface based on wizards and a context-sensitive help system.
