NetSpot is a tool for determining the range and diagnostics of wireless WiFi networks. With its help we will create a coverage map, detect problems with the functioning of the network and determine the optimal location for access points. The interface is divided into two modes "Discover" and "Survey".
In the first one, the application displays a list of wireless networks available in the nearest vicinity, from which we can read parameters such as name, channel number, MAC address, signal level, frequency, standard in which the network works, as well as the manufacturer of the access point. NetSpot supports 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, 2.4 and 5 GHz networks. In the "Survey" mode we will create a map of the range in a few steps.
For this purpose we have to draw a simple, illustrative plan of the object in which the network operates and give its dimensions. We can choose whether it is an apartment, an office, a large hall such as an airport or an open area. You can draw the plan using the tools built in the program, load a ready-made graphic file or use the examples available in the application.
The next step is to measure the signal by moving with the laptop to different places in the network area. After the tests, you can get acquainted with the results, from which we will find out where the network coverage is weakest. The program creates a map of the range on the plan created by us, marking with the appropriate color the signal quality and noise level, so that we can choose the optimal place for the access point or devices that amplify the signal.
