MetroSidebar is a free and easy to install extension to the Windows desktop, introducing a side bar on the screen, the appearance of which is based on the ModernUI interface from Windows 8. The user has at his disposal a set of several interesting components that can be placed on the bar, among which the most interesting are a watch, alarm, weather or a slide with photos. The application was created with great emphasis on aesthetics and simplicity of use.

It is characterized by quick operation and interesting animations of changing the content of individual components (tiles) and displaying the bar itself. In addition to their visual qualities, the lockable components also have functionality that significantly affects the convenience of working with the system. These include gadgets displaying the current weather for a defined location (most large Polish cities are supported), alarm mechanism (alarm clock), media player or shortcuts to the most important Windows functions.

MetroSidebar offers basic personalisation options for used gadgets. The user can, for example, change the colour scheme of each tile individually or determine its position on the screen. Similarly, for the bar itself, it is possible to define whether it is to be run with the system, always displayed at the top or self-hidden.

Despite the lack of the Polish language version, the extension is so simple and intuitive to use that it should not cause problems even for novice computer users. It can be installed on Windows XP/Vista/7/8 systems.
