Krita Animation Edition is a test version of Krita Animation Edition, equipped with manual animation tools. In addition to the tools known from Krity, there are three new Dockers founded on Kickstarter: Animation, Timeline and Onion Skins.

They can be placed anywhere in the workspace and animations can be controlled with their help. Timeline is the classic view of successive frames of animation on the timeline, Onion Skin is of course a view of several adjacent frames at the same time, and the Animation panel controls the playback. If your computer has OpenGL 3.0 or later, you can also use Instant Preview Mode.

This means that when using more compute-intensive tools, the program renders live preview on a smaller copy of the image and calculates the precise appearance in the background. The difference in responsiveness will be felt when painting, moving parts of a drawing, using geometric shapes and filters. A large part of the Krity engine has been rewritten here so that the tools can use background rendering.

Thanks to this, many calculations connected with the resulting work are made when the user does not paint. Instead of working at full power all the time, Krita will perform difficult tasks when the artist chooses another brush. Krita Animation Edition is based on Krita 2.9.

The final version will be based on the upcoming Krita 3.0.
