HijackThis is a great program that allows you to deal with malicious software, e.g. changing the start page of your web browser. The program allows you to search for components such as additional toolbars, ActiveX controls, dialers, spyware, and so on.

Search results are presented in the form of a log divided into four parts: R - registry entries for default homepage and search page, F - entries to files launched at system startup, N - similarly to R but for Netscape and Mozilla and O - other settings. Each of the detected entries, components or programs can be repaired or deleted.

The log can also be saved to a file for further analysis or consultation with an expert.
