Hardware-Assisted Virtualization Detection Tool is a very simple tool, as the name suggests, to examine whether the processor installed in the computer has support for hardware virtualization and whether this support is enabled in BIOS. The tool has been released by Microsoft mainly to enable users to easily determine the compatibility of their PC with Windows XP Mode built into Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate. However, the program can also be run on older systems - Windows Vista (at least with SP1) and Windows XP Professional (at least SP2) - and it performs its function.
It is worth mentioning that currently Microsoft no longer requires the presence of hardware support for virtualization to run Windows XP Mode.
