Expression Studio is a Microsoft package addressed to developers of desktop applications and websites looking for tools to create based on Silverlight and .NET technologies. The package includes such programs as Expression Web with SuperPreview function - the successor to FrontPage for creating websites, Expression Blend - an application for creating animations like Adobe Flash, SketchFlow - a program for creating user interfaces, Expression Design - a program for editing raster and vector graphics primarily for the purpose of creating user interfaces, collecting ratings and comments and group work, as well as Expression Encoder Pro - an extended version of the program for audio and video conversion. All Expression Studio 4 applications are based on Silverlight, Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) and XAML language and natively support the .NET libraries including the latest version 4.

In the fourth version, the applications have gained support for .NET 4, thanks to which they integrate well with Visual Studio 2010 and allow to create solutions dedicated for Windows Phone. Expression Blend includes support for layer import from Adobe Photoshop, new options for behavior and conditional behavior, improvements in working with data and Pixel Shader effects (also in animations). SketchFlow has also gained control of the superpowers.

Expression Web includes search engine optimization features, as well as options for creating extensions using HTML, CSS and JavaScript. The SuperPreview feature, which allows you to preview the site live in several browsers, has in turn gained Safari support. New features in Encoder Pro include Live Smooth Streaming (VC-1 and H.264), new H.264 MainConcept codec, improved screen capture and DRM support.
