Virtual GPS is a GPS (Global Positioning System) simulator that can be used to simulate a GPS navigation receiver connected to a computer. The program can be successfully used to create applications that require such a device. The tool supports a variety of NMEA sequences to work with any GPS mapping software.
The program works in two modes: simulation mode and file mode. In simulation mode, the latitude and longitude are periodically increased by a predefined level.
In file mode, coordinate data is loaded from a text file containing NMEA sequences. GPS data is sent periodically to the serial port, and to capture the signal from the simulator you can use a null-modem cable connecting two serial ports or use software emulating two connected serial ports - e.g. Virtual Null Modem, Virtual Serial Port Driver, Virtual Serial Port Kit, Advanced Virtual Com Port or another.
Also noteworthy is the option of transmitting the simulator signal via Bluetooth.
