Vim (VI iMproved) is a Moolenaar Gate developed text editor clone VI available on many platforms. Vim is distinguished by its ascetic user interface, which hides extensive functionality. Vim allows you to:

edit multiple files in separate windows (buffers), undo to a thousand recently performed operations and back to the place in time in the life of the file. Other advantages include a multi clipboard, support for syntax highlighting both programming languages and e.g. LaTeX, a powerful text automation system using regular expressions.

Despite its advantages and high efficiency that can be achieved with this program, it requires learning its functions, it does not lead by the hand and is not recommended for beginner users of the computer. Vim allows you to write texts from right to left (as in Arabic, Persian or Hebrew) and containing multi-byte characters - i.e. represented by more than one byte (as in Chinese, Japanese or Korean).

Vim also has commands to automatically respond to events (autocommands), e.g. to automatically extract the compressed file. It is also possible to record the editing process in the form of macros.
