Spelunky is an addictive, adventure platformer with an emphasis on logical thinking, but also arcade issues. Pixeled graphics and the Indiana Jones atmosphere are a kind of tribute to such old titles as Panama Joe or Rick Dangerous. The rules of the game are simple, we direct the actions of a small cave in such a way as to get to the next board, where perhaps undiscovered diamonds, gold or other valuables await with as little health damage as possible.
At first glance, the game seems a bit childish and tapped in its plot, but after completing the first few boards, its strong points are revealed. From hand to hand the road is becoming more and more difficult, and the hero is faced with more and more brave tasks. Equipped with the right attributes for the treasure hunter, such as ropes, dynamite and ladders, he tries to get through the thicket of underground corridors filled with venomous snakes, spiders and bats trying at all costs to prevent us from carrying out the mission.
An additional difficulty is the artist's frequent abandonment of template schemes to solve the riddles he encounters, which often forces us to abandon logical and stereotypical thinking. It is even worse when there are no explosives, ropes or torches for all of this, so the use of what on the equipment also needs to be carefully thought out. Spelunky is undoubtedly a joyful return to the old school, a limited pool of hearts, increasing difficulty and discovering new lands as the game progresses.
At the same time, the title is very nice and refined in detail, and thanks to a good combination of logical and arcade aspects, it will surely appeal to a wide range of fans of platform games, not only.
