Soldat is a phenomenal Polish game, which quickly gained popularity all over the world. Released in the old shareware model, i.e. the full version, but with the possibility to unlock additional options for a fee, it immediately drew the attention of people brought up on Scorched Earth, Worms or Counter-Strike.
It is a successful 2D mix, enriched with a few interesting ideas of its own. We are dealing with gameplay in quite standard, as for online skirmishes, modes, including deathmatch or CTF, but the action we see from the side and not through the eyes of the characters. Fun is possible with bots, i.e.
computer-controlled enemies or a living opponent. The arsenal of weapons available is such a two-dimensional processing of deadly destruction tools known from many commercial shooters. Moving around the fancy maps, which we get a lot in the package, is facilitated by jet boots, which in total replace the jump.
They use self-regenerating fuel after a while, so they do not guarantee a constant advantage on the battlefield. It's simply easier to escape from the situation when one enemy kills everyone on their way in large numbers and surprise them with an attack from another side. Some arenas allow the use of boosters.
