Google's free directory program for browsing and basic image retouching, and a Picasa Web Albums desktop client. Picasa automatically searches for photos and videos on disk and allows you to catalogue, describe, record a presentation on CD, archive, publish or print them. Picasa will retrieve from the photos data about the place where it was taken, if the camera has added GPS coordinates, or will allow the user to mark the place on the map himself.
When cataloguing it is very important to recognize the face, which allows you to share photos not only by date and place, but also by people on them. Picasa allows you to assign business cards from Google address book to found faces, and in the case of publication on Google+, the photos will show information about your friends on them. Picasa's photo editing capabilities may not be overwhelming, but they are sufficient for quick retouching before publishing on the web.
Of course, the retouch is non-destructive and you can undo all the steps. There are tools to correct colors, the ability to level the image, and tools to remove common mistakes, such as red eyes. Photos can also be defocused and sharpened, although Picasa's algorithms are not the best in their field.
By default, the program catalogues images in JPG, TIF, PSD, BMP and RAW formats (optionally also GIF and PNG) and movies in MPG, AVI, ASF, WMV and MOV formats.
