Photivo is a decent alternative to professional and not cheap programs for image color processing. The program can open JPG, TIFF, BMP and RAW files from many cameras and work with them in RGB and LAB spaces in a non-destructive way, also automatically using the file queue, and save them in JPG, PNG and TIFF formats. Importantly, even bitmaps with a color depth of 8 bits per channel are edited with a precision of 16 bits per channel.
The program has won the hearts of many users thanks to very good algorithms for removing noise from photos, advanced colour control in RGB and LAB spaces and a palette of effects. At the beginning of use, the program may be associated with well-known UFRaw Linux users. The possibilities of the program in terms of colour processing and the effects that we can give to the photos are surprisingly wide.
You'll find almost everything you need for this type of work - from color saturation curves to the ability to apply filters separately on lights, shadows and mid tones. You'll also find precise perspective correction, automatic pixel removal, grain simulation, vignette overlay, mock-up effect (deceived depth of field) and even the ability to apply external texture to the photo. Special attention should be paid to the ability to sharpen photos, which can be done in many ways, from waves bypassing the edges to Wiener filters, as well as the ability to remove noise separately for luminance and color.
The disadvantage of the program is the lack of the Polish interface and some minor deficiencies compared to professional applications - we will not find here a correction of gometry based on the lens profile (it can only be done manually) and we have to set ourselves to a relatively slow rendering of the preview in real time during editing (you can work with a reduced image). Beginners can be scared away by a multitude of functions, but the program offers the possibility to create your own palette of favorite settings and effects, which significantly speeds up your work. There is no doubt, however, that in order to use Photivo effectively, it is necessary to take a moment to get to know it better.
