MuseScore is one of the best programs for recording and reviewing notes - both for one instrument and for entire scores for the orchestra. Not only the rich possibilities and very nice output documents, but also the price - it is completely free of charge. MuseScore is designed to work at different levels.
You can save notes from scratch, starting with an empty document or a template. Characters on the stave can be inserted from the palette, and from version 2.0 of the program you can also help yourself with the screen keyboard of the piano. The note inserted on the stave produces a sound, which is particularly helpful when arranging chords.
In MuseScore you can prepare a document for printing, or use a program to present notes on the screen while playing. For the band, the score can be broken down into individual instruments and a separate document can be generated for each musician, which can then be viewed on a computer, in a mobile application or printed out. The program also has an extensive synthesizer, thanks to which you can listen to the song before you start playing, or you can secure the company of three virtual musicians who will take the place of the missing members of the string quartet.
The possibilities of the synthesizer, which is not the main part of the program, are surprisingly wide. Here you will find a large set of instruments of various types with the ability to set the volume and add effects. When playing, you can also set the outfit (if you need a different than standard 440 Hz) and the relative volume of the metronome.
Parameters can be added as metadata. Of course, the software will be like without a database of notes. After creating a free account on the MuseScore website, you can gain access to a kind of social networking platform, where users share notes and scores instead of pictures of their meals.
Of course, you can comment on the shared materials, add them to your favourite collection and pass them on. You will find here both classical compositions, well known to all music lovers, as well as your own compositions of users. You can also save your records only for yourself and have access to them at any time, and you can choose a license for them (from "all rights reserved" to the public domain).
Available songs are divided by instrument and genre. If they also have vocal parts, you can mark the language of words. MuseScore can only save scores in its own format, while export is also possible in PDF format, in the form of raster and vector images (BMP and SVG) and as a universal MusicXML.
After sending it to MuseScore, it can also be downloaded in other versions - the universal MusicXML, PDF for printing, as well as MIDI and MP3. In some browsers it is possible to listen to songs by pressing the space bar.
