The first omnibus update and patch package for Office 2013 32-bit and 64-bit. It introduces a number of changes, mainly extending the functionality offered by the package, increasing the security of individual component applications and ensuring greater compatibility with Windows 8.1. Modern hardware support has been improved, so touchpads supporting Microsoft's new system-specific gestures (called precision touchpads) will work better, and applications will look better on very high resolution screens.
Internet Explorer 11 and Windows 8.1 compatibility bugs have also been fixed. Improvements have also been made to click-to-run virtualization, the Quick Installation module used during installation and update of Office 365 desktop applications. Developers will be interested in the extended capabilities of Apps for Office and the new API.
Particularly noteworthy is the Power Map for Excel tool, which is part of Power BI - a set of tools designed to make Excel a real business analytics tool. With Power Map it is possible to present geographic and temporal information in an attractive way, in three dimensions, with the help of maps provided by Bing. It is also possible to analyse changes in a given area over time.
With the Service Pack 1 for Office 2013, Power Map has been permanently integrated into Office 360 ProPlus' Excel in all 40 languages in which it is available.
