MAME (abbreviated to Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator) is a program used to emulate thousands of different arcade games released from the late seventies until now. The tool is fully free (source code as well) and runs classic productions on modern computers without any problems, trying to reproduce them as faithfully as possible. MAME of course needs the original ROM image of the title and the data disk to work.
MAME, as the manufacturer points out, is a non-profit application and should not be used on a large scale, but should be used only for personal purposes. For example, to make up for the backlog of old games or to remember cult productions from the times of youth. All ROMs, CDs and data stored on hard drives are protected by copyright and may not be distributed without the express permission of the owners.
MAME manufacturers have no intention of infringing any copyright or patent.
