FreeMind is a free, multi-platform program for creating mindmaps, whose creators were strongly inspired by the MindManager tool. What distinguishes it from other programs of this type is the ability to roll up and unfold parts of the maps with a single click and the ability to use links to websites. Mindmaps have many applications and often work as illustrations of plans, notes, knowledge bases, they can even replace project management tools.

Due to the huge amount of information that a map created in FreeMap can contain, this tool can even replace a small database. Thanks to the possibility of folding the map's branches, navigation is fast and the presented data is readable. Nodes can be marked with icons, which can be found in the gallery.

An interesting type of view, which is not found in other programs of this type, is the file preview mode. In this mode, the structure of the selected directory can be viewed as a mindmap, using all the possibilities of the program.
