File Scavenger is a small but very useful application for recovering data that has been lost in various circumstances. It supports both newer and older versions of Windows, including even Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. Regardless of whether you want to restore data that has been removed due to a hardware failure, virus or our bug, File Scavenger will try to do the best it can.
The program recovers files from your hard drive, system trash or network drive. It should be borne in mind, however, that these data could not be permanently overwritten. If that is the case, it will not be possible to recover them.
File Scavenger is not a difficult tool to use. It allows you to specify both the partition from which you want to recover data and the type of files (e.g. ZIP archives, WMV sound files or PowerPoint presentations).
Clicking the "scan" button will start searching HDD content, and after this operation the application will generate a detailed list of data to be restored. We only need to select the file or directory we are interested in, indicate the path of saving and choose the "save" option. File Scavenger can also recover files from a formatted or corrupted volume (primary or dynamic) even if it has been deleted.
In this case, we do not need to know the original location of such a volume, let alone its size. Interestingly, before you start using File Scavenger, you can choose whether you want to install it or run it as a portable version.
