digiKam is an open source program for managing, organizing, viewing and simple editing of digital photos. The application supports the majority of camera models available on the market, allowing for cataloguing photos downloaded from the device into albums and subalbums, commenting on the albums and the photographs themselves and sorting them in chronological order. digiKam supports drag-and-drop, making it easier to work with other applications in the environment.
In addition, it provides the ability to manage metadata (EXIF, IPTC, XMP, MakerNote and geolocation using GPS), supports databases and archiving (e.g. CD/DVD recording) with simultaneous creation of HTML albums. Basic editing options include red eye correction and basic image properties (brightness, contrast, color balance, etc.), simple special effects (sharpening, blurring, noise removal), adding text and frames, as well as rotating and resizing photos.
digiKam also provides the ability to create MPEG slideshows, export data to iPod, Flickr and Picasaweb, search for duplicate photos and convert RAW data.
