ArtRage is an easy to use but very powerful tool for painting and drawing on a computer. The program provides very good digital equivalents of oil paints, watercolors, airbrush, rapitograph, pencils, oil felt-tip pastels and oil pastels. There are also auxiliary tools such as a spatula, eraser, paint tube and brocade, a palette for mixing colours and the unique Gloop pen - a tool resembling a nib with transparent ink, which can be used to make "blobs" and interesting contours.
There was no shortage of typically digital tools, such as cloning, color sampler, marking, layers and the ability to transform an already drawn image. The program also allows you to paint symmetrically on several axes and Tools are imitated in a very realistic way, allows you to mix paints already in the drawing and overlap different tools, and yet the program is relatively lightweight. Several types of paper and canvas can be selected as the substrate.
ArtRage from version 4.5 takes full advantage of the potential of graphics tablets, including the tilt angle of the pen and recognition of wheel operations on feathers that imitate an airbrush. Depending on the speed of brush movement, the paint is applied with different intensity, the thickness of the line drawn with a pencil or the transparency of the marker line changes. If your tablet supports tilt detection, the program can use it to draw and also change the tilt angle of the virtual crayon or the spray direction of the Airbrush nozzle.
Drawing with a master image can be done in two ways - you can place it next to the canvas or "put it" under the work area. The program can automatically select the colors from the underlying image. As a trial version, version 4.0 of the program is still available.
Holders of full version 4.0 can download a free update to 4.5 from the manufacturer's website. The trial version has limited possibilities to save and export images, but allows you to try out all available tools.
