Altirra is an 8-bit Atari emulator, thanks to which on a computer with Windows operating system we will run classic games available only on Atari. If we are going to download the Altirra emulator, we must remember, however, that it will not replace a traditional gaming device, but will only imitate its capabilities. Therefore, before using the tool, it is necessary to have appropriate software (various demo versions of games are available online) in order to enjoy the key functionality of this tool.
Altirra generally requires that you have ROM files that contain information about Atari software data. Although the emulator has an internal kernel, allowing you to run selected games or programs without the need to install ROMs, the manufacturer does not recommend using this solution. He explains that the internal kernel implemented here has been written from scratch and compliance problems may occur.
The emulator supports disk images saved in formats: ATR, DCM, ATX and PRO. You can also use Atari executable files (.
obx/. xex). Although Altirra will work on every PC, on the official website you will find its requirements:
Windows 2000, XP, Vista, 7, 8 or newer (both 32 and 64-bit), Pentium 1 Ghz processor or faster.
